Once a buzzing hive of aviation activity, Hangar 16U is now set to have a new lease of life as it becomes the go-to spot for people to connect, unwind, and thrive at Brabazon.
The transformation returns the hangar to its rightful place at the heart of the local community, creating a space that caters to everyone's needs and interests. You will be able to enjoy the cosy café - perfect for catching up with friends - quiet corners for studying, lively activity rooms for events, and even a fitness centre to break a sweat—all under one roof!
And that's not all—upstairs, there's even more to explore, from versatile activity rooms to a spacious social venue perfect for any gathering you can imagine. Plus, you can step outside and enjoy Brabazon Park's green spaces, playgrounds, and picnic spots for some outdoor fun.
Led by the talented team at architects Ferguson Mann, the restoration plans ensure that Hangar 16U retains its unique charm, from its iconic Belfast roof trusses to its intricate brickwork. With construction already in full swing, we can't wait to see the hangar's original doors restored, ready to welcome you in.
Construction is expected to last approximately 18 months, meaning Hangar 16U is due to open to the public late Summer / Autumn next year.
Sebastian Loyn, Planning and Development Director at YTL Developments, expressed excitement about Hangar 16U's restoration, stating, “Hangar 16U's restoration embodies the vision for Brabazon.”
“Hangar 16U will provide something for everyone; a place for all ages and all interests, for this generation and the next.”
“The restoration of Hangar 16U is another sign of our commitment to the local community and to creating a truly sustainable neighbourhood at Brabazon. Our vision is to create the space, connectivity and opportunities that will drive local prosperity for the next 100 years.”
